Worse First.
Everything you want is on the other side of worse first.
In order to climb a taller mountain, you need to scale down the one you're already on.
I must be a masochist.
Last week, I refunded the only paying customer I had, and changed over from X to Threads.
This felt like going backwards - breaking something that was working in order to do something else.
It felt counterintuitive.
After months of pushing, I finally had someone who was willing to give me a shot. But here I was, rejecting their trust, and again changing directions.
Worse First.
Every entrepreneur faces this at some point. Maybe it’s a pivot to a new industry. Maybe it’s a new payment processor, a new ad format, a new employee you’re considering.
It feels scary to make the jump - to sacrifice what’s working now to do something different.
You might have heard the saying: “Everything you want is on the other side of fear”
But practically speaking, fear actually translates to a “loss”.
We fear that we might make things worse, lose that customer and never get them back, break something that’s working and never find the magic again.
But when you’re just starting out, this fear is a trick.
When you’re starting out - you have nothing to lose. This is what makes you so dangerous.
You can afford to change directions, to be nimble when you come across new evidence, precisely because you have so little to lose.
As we start to get more success, we start to accumulate fear alongside it.
It takes deliberate effort to think: “What do I lose if I make this change? Is it bigger or smaller than what I gain?”
Everything we want is on the other side of worse first.
Often, we must climb down before we can go back up.

This week, instead of keeping everything as-is, I completely redesigned the app.

The changes go much, much deeper. (Check out the update on X)
And it reflects a shift in focus for WordRobin - from automation, to collaboration. I don’t want to take the thinking out of writing, I want to make it so easy, so intuitive, that you wonder how did I write on X before this?
