If I jump, will I fly?

About solving impossible problems, and knowing when to leap.

Your vehicle matters more than your work ethic.

In the past week, I lost $460.

Ding! my phone pinged a notification. I checked with excitement.

Meta ads - $70 charged to your account.

Ouch, that was not what I was looking for.

I was running ads to WordRobin. But instead of a purchase notification, I burnt through another $70.

Am I wasting my time?

Last week, I got my first customer.

The first point of proof that someone was willing to pay for something I built. But the joy was short lived. After just a week, the customer cancelled, leaving me with a fat zero again.

My mind was racing with doubts.

Do people even want to grow on Threads?

Should I be building on Linkedin?

Is Twitter better than Threads?

I was stuck. Do I pivot yet again? Or do I stick it out?

Solving the problem.

After an embarassingly long time feeling stuck, I realized this was a problem I could solve with data. There are two unknowns.

  1. Is it a problem with the product, or do I just suck at marketing?

  2. Can I build a $10k/month business on Threads, or do I need to be on Twitter/Linkedin?

Both are solvable with data.

Improve my marketing.

I was being lazy again - auto-generating captions, just throwing together ads without poring over every single word. Expecting results without the work.

Solution:

Revamp my copy. Hone in on the messaging, both on landing pages and ads.

OLD

NEW

I’m already working on this.

Threads VS Twitter VS Linkedin

Ultimately, each platform attracts different user types. Can I build a successful business on Threads? Do people want to grow on Threads?

Solution:

This one is very simple. I am running three ads. Same copy, same targeting, same image.

The only difference is that I replace the word Threads with Linkedin or Twitter.

I let the ads run for a day or two, and check results.

(As of writing - Twitter is winning!)

What’s New?

I was feeling very lost this week! Thankfully I was invited to a meetup of new founders which helped clear things up.

Product Hunt

You guys were fantastic with the upvotes last week! If anyone is feeling generous, I’d really appreciate it if you head over here and give an upvote on Product Hunt 🙏

What’s next?

No more confused stalling! I am taking action.

🙂

See you next week!
